Hot Springs is traditionally best known for the natural spring water that gives it its name, flowing out of the ground at a very high 147 degrees Fahrenheit (64 degrees Celsius). The tourist trade that this brought made it a very successful spa town. However, it is now also noted as the boyhood home of US President Bill Clinton. It is the home of the Arlington Hotel, which was a popular retreat for Al Capone. (Information provided by Wikipedia.)(Information provided by Wikipedia .)

CITY RELEASES INFORMATION PACKET ON PROPOSED WATER/WASTEWATER RATE CHANGES
City Manager Lance Hudnell released today a packet providing citizens with detailed information on the city’s water/wastewater rate change proposal. The packet is available from the city manager and city clerk offices at City Hall, 133 Convention Boulevard; by e-mail on request by calling 321-6811; or in the What’s New box on the city’s Web site, www.cityhs.net.
The packet describes the reasons why the rate changes are needed; lists the specific capital improvements to the city’s water and wastewater systems that will be provided by the rate increase; and provides a simple rate calculator which can help Municipal Utilities customers estimate the proposed impact in dollars and cents on their utility bill.
A public hearing on the proposed rate changes will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1 in the Board Chambers at City Hall. For information, call 321-6811.

MUNICIPAL UTILITIES LAUNCHES IMPROVED, CUSTOMER-FRIENDLY PHONE SYSTEM
On Thursday, July 16th, Hot Springs Municipal Utilities Customer Service callers will experience a more customer-friendly, interactive phone system. Besides easy access to a customer service representative, the system also provides access to recorded information and a message mailbox.
Customers with general questions, or specific questions such as those regarding sanitation charges, city compost, mailing address, operating hours, drop box locations or directions to the facility can choose appropriate menu options. Automated information on these topics is expected to reduce the wait time for those needing a customer service representative. During unusually busy times, customers will hear friendly messages advising them of the current wait time. This will allow each customer to make an informed decision to hold, leave a message or call back later. At any time, the caller can dial 0 to speak to a customer service representative. Additionally, customers can access the automated messages after hours, allowing them to receive information at their convenience.
“Our goal is to improve the customer experience,” Customer Service Manager Lisa Vargo said. “Each customer’s time is valuable, and with the new system, they can make informed choices that will provide prompt access to detailed information on the customer’s terms and on their schedule.” For more information, call 321-6824.
